Spot2 Satellite Tag results to date….

The tracks of the Spot2 satellite tagged sharks

  • The first satellite tagged shark went 550kms West to Kenya then 460kms North to Somalia

  • The second shark went 335kms South to the Amirantes then 370Kms West to Zanzibar

  • The third shark went 3015kms East in 42 days to an area near the equator due south of Sri Lanka; here the tag detached and floated a further 2090kms to Thailand

This indicates that whale sharks seen in Seychelles are truly migratory while the resighting through Photo ID or by marker tags indicate that at least a part of the population has a strong site fidelity returning to Seychelles in subsequent years.
