The MCSS are implementing a programme, funded by the Dutch Trust Fund, (DTF), to install environmental mooring systems to protect sensitive marine areas from anchor damage. The project involves the training of local divers from the MCSS, Marine Parks Authority and the Conservation Division in the installation of various forms of embedment mooring systems by specialists John and Judy Halas of Environmental Moorings International, Florida. Because these moorings do not have heavy ground tackle dragging on the sea bed, they are particularly suited for use around coral reefs and other sensitive areas. The project is supported by many local stakeholders involved with marine activities and managing protected marine areas. |
