The
National Commission of Natural Protected Areas of Mexico (CONANP)
has announced that it will be organizing the second
International Whale Shark Conference to be held from the
25 to the 30 of August 2007 in
Isla Holbox, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Isla Holbox is the ‘capital’ of the Meso-American
whale shark population and as August is the main whale
shark aggregation time, there will also be the opportunity
for participating in some real-life encounters as well as
in the conference.
The objective of this conference is to continue
promoting international collaboration in the conservation
of the whale shark and sharing knowledge and experiences
on its research and management.
The conference will be held at the "Casa
Ejidal"; Holbox is a very small island so
participants can walk from conference to any of the local
hotels of which there is a range from 2 to 5 star to
choose from.
The closing date for those wishing to make oral
presentations or to exhibit a technical poster is May
30th.
