Have You Seen This Shark?

Rob and Sam Bester, part of our regional network of whale shark correspondents from Gypsea Dive Centre at Sodwana, Bay South Africa, contacted us recently to let us know what’s been happening in their area:

We have enjoyed fantastic in-water encounters this season.  Majority of the sharks passing Sodwana Bay have been noticeably more social.

We had a 10m+ male that hung around for approximately 4 hours 150m off-shore of our launch area.  He was a superior 'player' and constantly initiated interaction with the snorkellers. He had a very distinct dorsal fin and a well healed but severe 'gash' in his right side in line with his 2nd dorsal.

The distinctive deep gash on the right hand flank and badly damaged dorsal fin... Have You Seen This Shark? Photos Sam Bester

As you can see from the photos the cut on the right hand side is indeed very deep and quite unmistakable. Have you seen this shark? If so please drop us a quick line with information about where and when you saw him and we can pass the information on to Rob and Sam.
