New Whale Shark Web Site Launched

PADI Project Aware, The Shark Trust and the National Aquarium have launched a new web site to support their on-going Whale Shark Project:

 www.whalesharkproject.org

The site supports a Whale Shark Photo Identification project and has been created to encourage divers and snorkelers world-wide to report their sightings. It is hoped that by contributing sightings and identification photos, divers and snorkellers will be able to contribute information to assist researchers studying whale shark migrations. Ultimately, this will lead to gathering the information that is needed for the informed protection of these huge, harmless sharks.

The PADI Project Aware/ SharkhTtrust  brochure opens out into this attractive display poster.

PADI have also designed a 'Whale Shark Awareness Distinctive Speciality'. This allows divers and / or snorkellers to become familiar with the proper techniques for recreational diving whilst encountering whale sharks with minimal impact on the sharks’ habitat and behaviour, enabling them to plan, organise and execute a dive with whale sharks in a safe and passive manner.

To support the programme a brochure has  been produced which include basic information about in-water conduct with whale sharks and how the public can get involved in whale shark activities.

In Seychelles, long time MCSS supporter, the Underwater Centre is the participating Centre and can teach the Whale Shark Specialty as well as introducing you to the MCSS monitoring project.
