The
MCSS is best known for its pioneering work on the Whale
shark (Rhincodon typus) known locally as “Sagren”. In
addition to this however MCSS has amongst other
initiatives undertaken work on the Crown-of

has also instituted a programme for the installation and
maintenance of environmentally-friendly mooring buoys and
works with partners in the scientific investigation of
management practices to cope with impact of the severe
coral-bleaching event experienced in Seychelles waters in
early 1998. This newsletter has been initiated to inform
our partners, stakeholders and the general public of:

ongoing activities and initiatives·
-
Pertinent
local and international news on marine conservation
and management issues·
-
Matters
of concern arising regarding Seychelles marine
environment.·
-
MCSS’
perspective on matters of marine policy and
legislation
As
it develops it is hoped that the newsletter will fulfill
an educative and public information role as well as
provide a forum for stakeholders to discuss issues of
concern and provide commentary and opinions on
developments related to marine conservation in Seychelles.
